Some of you may have noticed via my snapchat: aujb and our Instagram accounts that we hosted a launch party for Beating50Percent!! Don’t worry there will be more of them an you all will be invited:)
This one was just for our close family and friends as a way to let them in on what all this Beating50Percent stuff is about! We wanted to thank the people that we are closest with for all their support, encouragement, and prayers, both prior to, and post launching Beating50Percent.
The event was a photo gallery featuring 7 different married couples that we believe are true examples of what Beating50Percent is all about! You will see those photos soon on the blog!
As many of you know, Jeremy is a photographer so when we decided to put on an event we came up with the idea of a photo gallery as a way to combine Jer’s passion of photography and our mission of Beating50Percent. Among the couples include; my parents (The Botti’s), our premarital counselors, friends in Bend, our pastor and his wife, and friends in Portland. The couples range from newlyweds, to 8 kids, to empty nesters.
During the event we went through each photo and spoke to how each couple inspires us, and embodies the mission of Beating50Percent. We explained why we chose to photograph each couple in their respective locations, and what we have learned from them! We also got to explain in detail what Beating50Percent is all about, what we have to offer now, and what we hope to offer in the future.
We hosted the event at a wine bar art gallery in northwest Portland. Amy (Jer’s mom) of course made all the food, and we had a photo-booth that was a knockout as well! We encouraged everyone in attendance to take a photo with their husband/wife and write their #3sentencelovestory on the bottom of the printed photo. We displayed the photos on a wall for everyone to read and see!
Below is a blurry photo of the stories we got to keep! Some of our dearest loved ones:)
Both of our parents, AND our grandparents were able to come to the event! THAT ALONE was so special to us.
All in all it was a GREAT event. Super encouraging to us, and left us feeling affirmed in what we are putting our everything into.
To be real for a moment, we got in a fight on the car ride to the event about menial stupid stuff. We were stressed, tired, and overwhelmed, and of course took it out on each other. Jer’s prints were late and didn’t actually show up until the day of the event… which was one of those “I told you so”moments for me. I was frustrated that he didn’t expedite and guarantee the shipping like I had asked him to. He was of course disappointed at himself, and me rubbing it in only made matters worse…
Thankfully we reconciled at the event just before our guests began to arrive. After the event our premarital counselors (Chris and Jamie Herb) came over and gave us big hugs and encouragement before they had to drive back to Corvallis.
The first thing Chris (who married us) said to us was, “What you guys are doing is so awesome and we are so proud of you, but just remember the more of these kinds of things you do, the more satan is going to try to turn you against each other. He wants to steal, kill, and destroy everything you are doing with Beating50Percent and he knows the easiest way to do it is to attack YOUR marriage.”
We smiled at each other and confessed our dispute before the event. Chris and Jamie both said they were not surprised, and they both urged us to make sure that OUR marriage always comes first before alllllllllll this Beating50Percent stuff.
Jer and I nodded in full agreement. We were thankful for their wise words. It was comforting to know that weren’t crazy. Chris and Jamie expected that we would experience turmoil for the sake of our mission.
We know we are facing a battlefield, but we are on the same team, and “nothing can stand against us.”
We drove home that night holding hands. Reminding each other that “we are on the same team.”
