When I was a little girl I loved princess movies. Cinderella, Pocahontas and the little mermaid to name a few. But looking back, I think what I really loved about those movies, was the love story behind them. I remember anxiously waiting to hear that sweet and familiar phrase at the end. You know, “and they lived happily ever after…” There was something reassuring about the idea of someone being able to attain something that seemed so far away. And today I think that many people enter a marriage thinking that’s all they need to do in order to obtain their very own happily ever after. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. And that’s okay. Because “happily ever after” isn’t really what we’re after here today. We are here because of love and I would say that love is something so much deeper than that. Love is the ability to be yourselves with one another, Love is To know one another’s past mistakes, failures, ugly secrets, weaknesses, strengths, character qualities, likes and interests, dreams and aspirations, to know one another completely and to still hold that flame in your hearts for one another. Love is experiencing the highs of common ground; humor, desire and passion for one another and also wading through the lows of this life together; hand in hand, knowing that no matter what, through good and bad, thick and thin, in sickness and in health….regardless of whatever circumstances may come our way, that there is one thing, next to Jesus, that will always stand, and that is us and That is what we have together. We love each other not for what we can give, but for who we are inside. And not because we can, but because we must.
I love you so much, Eddie and as I look back on our lives, I can only be thankful. Thankful to our Lord and Savior for placing us in each other’s paths, thankful that He has knit our hearts together. Thankful for the Love and Grace that He has shown us and continues to show us everyday. And thankful that because of Him we have the opportunity to stand here today and unite together as husband and wife. FINALLY. 🙂 I only hope and pray that as we endeavor on this journey as husband and wife that we bring Him honor and glory as we strive to be a light for His names sake in this world by drawing near to Him, together. I want you to know that I love you, tremendously. That I will do my best to honor Our Lord by honoring you as your wife from this day forward. I promise To be faithful to you, to uplift you, to encourage you, to selflessly serve you, to pray for you, to tend to you when your sick, to live life with you when your well, to cry with you when your down and to laugh with you when your up, to respect you and above all else, to love you.
Where you go I will go, and where you stay, I will stay, your people will be my people and your God will be my God.
Tawnie, you are the love of my life, my best friend and mother of my children. You’re one of the sweetest and most caring people I have have ever met and an amazing mother. I look forward to raising our children and growing old together. I promise to be loving, patient and faithful, I promise to be supportive and encouraging, I promise to be the best husband and father I can be. I promise to be there through the bad times and the good, to comfort you when you are sad, and to care for you when you are sick for all the days of my life. I love you.
