Angela, my best friend, my better half, my travel buddy, and today my wife. You’re gorgeous, but above all else you’re kind. You’ve helped me to realize that having a strong Godly woman with a love for Jesus and a heart so big for helping others is far more precious than anything else this world can offer. Your kindness, compassion, and generosity constantly inspire me to be a better man.
After time has run its course and our physical fails and all we’re left with is the companionship of one another, you’re the one I want to be with. I can’t imagine going through life without you by my side. I feel so fortunate that you have chosen me to share your love with, and that I now get to grow old next to you for the rest of my life.
Today I have loved you for 1138 days. Each of those days has been a true gift from God, and I thank him for each and every one of them. I can’t express how blessed I feel to be standing with you here today, celebrating our love for one another.
I choose you because you turn everyday moments into moments to celebrate. I promise that when times get tough we will persevere knowing that any problems we may face we will conquer together because we are a team now and for always. Together we will create a home, becoming a part of one another.
I vow to be faithful and to cherish you so that together we may grow in Christ and that our home may be a praise to him. I promise to always love you fiercely and to stand by you through the highest highs and the lowest lows. Wherever our path leads us, we will make the best of it together.
I vow to be honest and caring and to love you as you are and not as I want you to be, and to grow old by your side as your love and best friend. I will strive to help create a life that we can cherish, inspired by your love for me and mine for you, all while loving what I know of you and trusting what I do not yet know.
I’m asking that you give me your heart, love, loyalty, and trust and I promise you, I will stop at nothing to protect you, to love you, and to support you the best I know how. With these words I bind my life to yours.
Ian, today is my favorite day, not only because I get to marry you, but because it’s one of those days we all long for. The day you stand in awe of the gift God has given you, you now understand why things happened the way they did, you look back and know why certain doors closed and others opened and why the uncomfortable preparation phase was necessary for you to go through to receive your gift…and most of all, you’re reminded of the faithfulness of God. It’s the best feeling in the world to know that you serve a God who loves you and always has your best in mind.
You’re my best, my best friend, the best answer to my prayer, and one of the best men I know. When I prayed for you I didn’t ask God for a dentist with a man bun who loves cats, traveling, and wearing Hawaiian shirts as if every day is a vacation. God knew I would adore your weirdness and adventurous spirit and he delivered a man of God, above and beyond of what I could imagine.
Even though now I can stand here with so much joy and gratitude in my heart that I get to marry you, I know I didn’t always feel this way. There was a time where I didn’t know if I’d ever find you and where I struggled trusting God. The bible warns us that we will be prone to forgetting what God has brought us through and who he is, suggesting that we will need reminders of the promises of God.
I heard our job as Christians is to remember, to remember the promises of God because it becomes EASY to forget in times of great challenges when we don’t see how hard times could EVER be used for good and also in times of great joy when it’s easy to forget where all our gifts come from.
As your wife, I promise to remind you of the promises of God. When you worry, I’ll remind you of how God always works all things together for good for those who love him. When you celebrate, I’ll be there to remind you to give thanks, knowing every good and perfect gift comes from above. I end my vows with saying I’m so grateful for you, for your parents who raised you so wonderfully, and for being MY reminder of the promises of God. I love you and I’m so excited to live my life as your wife and to be the team God has intended us to be.
