Babe, As I stand here about to take your hand for life, I am reminded of the poem you wrote me once in a letter during our 3 years of long distance. It was a short and simple note that read
“Like a butterfly to the cage, stomach flies to the emotional rage.”
You still give my stomach butterflies when I see you. whether its for the first time in 3 months or the first time in 3 hours. My heart beats slower and faster at the same time. Everything about me wants to express my love you for you. My love for you is more than just a feeling of inloveness, it’s an unwavering confidence in my choice to love you with all that I am for the rest of my life. I want to love you in direct, personal, specific and ever fresh ways. There is no doubt in my mind that you are the one that I am supposed to team up with for life. I know the Lord is rejoicing with us today, and fist pumping at his successful matchmaking skills. I thank God relentlessly for giving me a man that I don’t deserve. You are that man. You have all the characteristics of a husband that I prayed for, and that filled my journal pages during the years leading up to meeting you. You are above and beyond what I could have ever asked or imagined. Because of your great love for me, today I make this great promise to you:
I promise to be on your team for life
I promise to be your biggest fan
I promise to support you with all my heart soul mind and strength
I promise to affirm you in public and in private
I promise to be your prayer warrior
I promise to put God first
I promise to put you before anyone and anything else
I promise to always let you drive
I promise to push the envelope
I promise to rub your neck when you’re stressed
I promise to scratch your head when you’re tired
I promise to motivate and challenge you to live up to the calling you have received
I promise to keep my bathroom clean
I promise to ask you hard questions and hold you accountable
I promise to humbly and selflessly serve you
I promise to be faithful
I promise to continue writing you notes and letters
I promise to commit to date night
I promise to be quick to forgive
I promise to be better with directions
I promise to take care of you when you’re sick
I promise to tame down my redhead stubbornness
I promise to respect you and honor you
I promise to follow you and trust you
I promise to love you always, always more.
Like I always do, I couldn’t help but write these words on my hand on my wedding day. “ALWAYS MORE.” Our wedding is about far more than a day in a dress, it’s about you and me becoming one by the powerful grace of God. It’s a picture of the love that Christ has for us. I hope that our love could forever reflect that image. The image of Christ’s undeniable love for all of us. But I also write these words on my hand as a reminder that by Christ’s strength, there is always more ways that I can serve you, more things to learn about you, more grace to grant you, more humility to have towards you, more support to offer you, more laughter to share with you, more children to give you, more adventure to seek with you, more passion to share with you, more faith to have in you, more places to go with you, more people to meet with you, more prayers to pray with you, more ways to worship with you, and more love to give to you.
Today I make the most important decision of my life, second to deciding to follow Jesus. Today I become your wife…. Finally… You light me up Jeremy. I want to be part of all the exciting changes in your life. I want to be holding your hand as we embark on future adventures together. I know it will be work, but I’m willing to run the extra mile every day for you babe. I believe in God’s calling on your life and I can’t stand the thought of missing out on it. Let’s braid it for life babe, Christ you and I. I love you forever, your daisy braids.
