I told you a few months ago how hard it was for me to write my vows because there is so much I want to say about such an incredible man. I asked you if you could just tell me what I should say. You said, “Promise to love me, have babies with me, and love Jesus with me”. After laughing over the way you said it, I thought about it and honestly Jonathan, I promise to do just that. I promise to love you with the most overwhelming passion, beauty and care I can. I promise (and emphasis on the promise on this one)… to have sooooo many Shirey Babies with you. And I promise to do all of that and more, while pursuing the King of all Kings. I wish to grow closer to one another by growing closest to Christ. I will lean on God’s resting grace to pursue you in all your forms. Your snarky, stubborn, and just down right irritating forms but as well your sweet, sensitive, and respectful forms. You are a fairytale come true, my prince charming, and a precious gift to me, John Paul Shirey Jr. I vow to fiercely love you and make a beautiful family with you, and above all I vow to love The Most High Creator with you for as long as I shall live.
I honestly can remember the first day that I laid my eyes on you and you were the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen in my life. You were the girl that I always wanted to be with and I never thought I had a chance with. I can say that I have achieved my goal of finding and marrying a woman that would stand by my side through anything. More importantly a woman that lives Jesus more than me. I have watched you grow over the years and I want to be a part of what the Lord is doing in your life. So I stand here today, before God and all of these witnesses, vowing to you as your husband, that I will love you with all of my heart, that I will be there for you whenever and however you need me. I will be your support when you need it the most and I will always be your hand to hold. I will always be there as the leader of our home and the man that you need. For better or for worse, in sickness and in health, for rich or for poor, until death do us part. I can’t wait to see what the future holds. It is you and me, forever and always. I love you Mrs. Shirey.
